Belgian Refugees in England 1914 and Belgian Soldiers
Geplaatst: 02 aug 2014 08:16
Hello
I am new to this forum and I am afraid that my only language is English so apologies in advance.
I live in Leicestershire and in 1914 3 Belgian families were living in our village.
Their surnames were
Asscherick
Bethune
Wynante
The spelling may not be right as this is taken from a local newspaper.
We believe that Franciscus C Asscherick who married in Leicester in 1917 and was a soldier in the Belgian army at the time was one of the families. I have come across a Francois Ch. l Asscherick from Oostende in the Golden book for 38-39. All the families were listed as from Oostende.
Can we take this research any further? Are there army records for Belgian soldiers? Please excuse my ignorance.
Also his regiment was listed as 14eli. Can someone please tell me how I can find out where they were and what they did in the war.
Many thanks for any help you can give.
Max
